Does the pressure in your Combi boiler or heating system boiler keep dropping? Here's how to fix it! We'll show you why it happens, and how to fix it. We'll show you how the filling loop works
Hi, our gas boiler was moved when we had an extension built and the gas supply pipe is now at least 20m from the meter with many bends. It's time to replace the boiler but my plumber says the gas pressure at the boiler is way too low (I think he said 13?) and advises sorting this out before getting a new boiler, which I want to do.
The majority of boilers will sit between 1 and 2 bars of pressure - if yours is below 1 then it's probably too low. What to do if Your Boiler has Low Pressure. Once you know that the drop in pressure hasn't been caused by a leak, or a leak has been fixed, you can repressurise your boiler to bring it back to the normal level.
Low Boiler Pressure - Job Prices. Solutions For Boilers With Low Pressure Problems. Many modern boilers are installed as part of a sealed central heating system, the water pressure is deliberately kept high so it can be pumped to all the radiators in the home. Learn More
If your central heating is not working, it could be down to a loss of water pressure. The water pressure indicator on the front of your boiler should read between one and two bars of atmospheric pressure. If it is below one, then your boiler pressure is too low.
The position set when the boiler was installed is sometimes shown by a red indicator needle. On most digital gauges, you'll see a flashing pressure reading, if there's a low (or high) pressure warning. If your boiler pressure reads less than 1 bar, it's possible that you might have lost water from the system, which needs to be replaced.
If your boiler has a central heating filling loop, also known as a refill pressure loop, you can re-pressurise the system yourself, but take care to avoid water spillages. It is best to do this with the heating system cold as well. The loop is a flexible metal hose below the boiler and it's usually only attached at one end - the water
Central Heating Boiler Pressure Low. This web page describes the symptoms and fixes for low central heating boiler pressure. The central heater boiler pressure meter will be on the front of the boiler, see image below.
Where to check your boiler pressure or central heating system pressure. What pressure changes are normal. What to do if the central heating boiler pressure is too high or too low or if it swings between high and low.
Your boiler must be at the correct pressure for the hot water to circulate properly between the radiators, especially if they are on different floors. Generally, the ideal pressure is between 1 and 2 bars, but this may vary from boiler to boiler. Ask your heating engineer. Check the pressure gauge
